Opinion: Ramaphosa is no longer fit to serve as the President of the Republic of South Africa
Ramaphosa has broken his oath of office
Context: South Africa only
Below is the oath that Ramaphosa swore before the Chief Justice on becoming president. Ramaphosa’s behavior and actions throughout the pandemic confirm that he has broken every one of the sworn bullet points below and is no longer fit to serve as the president of South Africa. There are those who may say that Ramaphosa has committed treason.
Ramaphosa’s oath of office
“In the presence of everyone assembled here, and in full realisation of the high calling I assume as President of the Republic of South Africa, I, <his name stated in full>, swear that I will be faithful to the Republic of South Africa, and will obey, observe, uphold and maintain the Constitution and all other law of the Republic; and I solemnly and sincerely promise that I will always—
• promote all that will advance the Republic, and oppose all that may harm it;
• protect and promote the rights of all South Africans;
• discharge my duties with all my strength and talents to the best of my knowledge and ability and true to the dictates of my conscience;
• do justice to all; and
• devote myself to the well-being of the Republic and all of its people.
So help me God.”
Opinion: Ramaphosa is no longer fit to serve as the President of the Republic of South Africa
By way of note: Treason is a common law crime in South Africa.
The crime of high treason is defined as:
“any conduct unlawfully committed by a person owing allegiance to a state with the intention of:
• overthrowing the government of the Republic;
• coercing the government by violence into any action or inaction;
• violating, threatening or endangering the existence, independence or security of the Republic;
• changing the constitutional structure of the Republic.”
Some may say that Ramaphosa, as President could be guilty of "violating, threatening or endangering the existence, independence or security of the Republic" with regard to his conduct throughout the "pandemic" and the pending WHO treaty.
